ETH vs. ETC
It’s no surprise that Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC) share many commonalities. Ethereum, or ETH, was founded by Vitalik Buterin, with the help of Joseph Lubin, Anthony Di Lorio, Mihai Alisie, Gavin Wood, and Charles Hoskinson. For those of you who may not know, Hoskinson moved on to become the creator of Cardano (ADA). In this piece, we will look at the differences between Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC)!
Similarities Between ETH and ETC
Ethereum Classic is like Ethereum in many ways. Ethereum, and Ethereum Classic are both dedicated to immutability. What happens on Ethereum, or Ethereum Classic, stays on its respective blockchain.
Differences Between ETH and ETC
One of the biggest differences between Ethereum and Ethereum Classic, has to do with the way each project operates. As Ethereum is the original, it naturally receives the greatest number of network upgrades. These upgrades allow the network to perform better over time and will eventually be the framework for the transition from the current Ethereum network to the new Ethereum 2.0 network.
Ethereum Classic takes a different approach: Rather than participating in the same network alterations as “Ethereum”; Ethereum Classic aims to keep the original Ethereum blockchain alive. According to the developers of Ethereum Classic, ETC represents a more untouched version of Ethereum.
Ethereum Classic is far more centralized than Ethereum, or almost any other cryptocurrency project for that matter. Almost 70% of all ETC mining is done by only two mining pools. This has made Ethereum Classic far more susceptible to nefarious hackers.
Since Ethereum Classic is so centralized, it has a major weakness for 51% attacks. This is where a miner manipulates the system into processing faulty transactions. Over the years, there have been at least four ETC attacks, which resulted in the fraudulent minting and sale of over 10 million ETC. Luckily for us, ETH doesn’t have this problem.
Conclusion
Both ETH and ETC have expressed highly bullish price action at one time or another. Between the two however, it is more likely that ETH will come out on top.
